Young Carers

Courthouse Greens Young Carers Commitment

At Courthouse Green we are committed in ensuring that Young Carers attend and enjoy school in the same way as pupils who do not have a caring role.  We strive to support identified Young Carers to meet their full potential, alongside working with children who are not yet identified, ensuring they are supported and encouraged to talk to a trusted adult.

Mrs Owen is the dedicated Young Carers lead, supported by Georgia Withey and Justine McKim. Mrs Chauli is the strategic lead for Young Carers.

We actively seek feedback from Young Carers through our youth club held every Monday 3.15-4.20pm. As well as the youth club, we provide dedicated events for the children throughout the year. Young Carers are a protected group, who are offered every opportunity and their attendance and academic progress is closely monitored so that no child is left behind and they are the best they can be.

We have successfully achieved the bronze and silver award presented by The National Children’s Society for the work we do for Young Carers.

We have our own referral process, as well as working alongside Coventry Young Carers to give children the best level of support and care. We work with external agencies, such as school nursing team and Coventry Young Carers, to support Young Carers within school. If you think your child may be a Young Carer, please contact any of the Young Carers team.

The Carers Trust Heart of England (CTHOE) Carer Awards is an annual event that celebrates the achievements of carers and the organisations that support them in the local community.   Awards are given in various categories, including for young carers, young adult carers, and “Carer of the Year”. Other awards recognise businesses, schools, and healthcare professionals who are supportive of carers.

Award categories

  • General Practitioner Award: Acknowledges a GP surgery, consultant, district nurse, or team that has a demonstrably carer-friendly approach.
