Governing Body

The Governing Body meet at least once every term and committees of the Governing Body also meet regularly.

The Chair of Governors is L J Winterburn, and she can be contacted by letter or email via the school office.

The Clerk to the Governing Body can also be contacted via the school office.

Role and Responsibilities of the Governing Body

Governors work as a team. They are responsible for making sure the school provides a good quality education for all pupils. Raising educational standards in school is a key priority. This has the best chance of happening when there are high expectations of what pupils can achieve.

Governors promote effective ways of teaching and learning when setting the school aims and policies. They do this together with the head teacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.

Head Teachers are recruited and selected by governors – and most Head Teachers choose to be governors themselves.

Governing boards are accountable to parents, the local community and the Local Authority. Appointments are for three or usually for four years. The governing board’s main role is to help raise pupils’ standards of achievement.Governors have three main roles:

To provide strategic direction for the school
To act as a critical friend to the headteacher
To ensure accountability

They also carry out a number of other important duties, which include:

Determining how the school’s budget is spent
Hearing appeals and grievances
Forming policy on the school’s curriculum and collective worship
Setting standards for pupils’ behaviour and discipline
Making sure school buildings are welcoming and safe
Setting and monitoring the school’s aims and policies

Are accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community
Selects the Head Teacher
Makes sure the agreed Curriculum is well taught
Decides how the school can encourage pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural development
Makes sure the school provides for all pupils including those with special needs.

Governors are at the heart of how a school operates. It’s important they get things right. How they do their job effects the interests of pupils, staff and the reputation of the school in the community.

Governors support and challenge head teachers by gathering views, asking questions and discussing what’s best for the school. They are not there to rubber stamp decisions. They have to be prepared to give and take advice and must be loyal to decisions taken by the governing board as a whole. As long as they act within the law and take appropriate advice, governors are protected from any financial liability for the decisions they take.

Hello, I’m Christina, I am a mum of two boys, 1 of whom attends Conkers class at CHG. I am a Specialist Teaching Assistant, providing 1-1 support to a child with complex needs in a mainstream school.

I am hardworking and dedicated to improving the outcomes of young children and supporting equality in education. As a parent governor, I look forward to supporting the school to build strong connections between school and the parents at CHG.

Carrie is a mum to 3 children, 2 of whom attend CHG. She is a member of our Lunchtime Supervisor team, who also provides 1:1 support for pupils who need it. She is a passionate, kind and caring person who will bring a wealth of knowledge from her time in education to the role. She is committed to building bonds between school and families and is looking forward to developing these whilst as a governor.

Originally born and bred from Wolverhampton where I grew up before moving to Coventry 11 years ago when I married my husband who has always lived in Coventry also attended Courthouse Green primary School is his younger day.

Since university I have gone on to pursue my career in the financial services where I am currently the Deputy Branch Manager of a high street building society. I have carried out various roles including Branch Manager and nothing gives me more pleasure than coaching and developing a team and putting my members at the heart of what we do.

I have 2 beautiful boys, one who is currently in year 2 at Courthouse Green Primary school and the other has recently celebrated his 1st Birthday.

In my current role I am passionate about developing my team to become the best versions of themselves so that they can provide legendary service to our members. I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to make a di?erence in the education, of not just my son, but the school as a whole. I look forward to work with parents, teachers, the Head and other governors to help drive the continued improvement needed to provide our children with the best chance of success.
